For Universities and Further Education Colleges

As well as the tenders & projects and the promotional and marketing benefits described in the top 3 panels of our home page, there are additional opportunities for Higher and Further Education Institutions in being UKITA members.

For a University or FE College in a given locality, there are opportunities to use the UKITA brand to assist its own efforts in engaging with ICT & Digital SME owners.

They may choose to become a UK IT Association location hub and engage in the following types of activities or suggest anything else that helps them with their own projects, graduate placement or anything else that is important to them.

Examples include:

Become an IT employer ‘hub’ and use it to:

  • Promote placements or employment/internship schemes they are running
  • Be part of creating a localized UKITA cluster or ‘branch’ and base it at the Institution
  • Market channel for additional promotion of the University’s ‘other’ products (short / professional courses, consultancy, etc.) and pilot testing new products
  • Arrange for ICT businesses representatives to come in and do ‘guru’ talks and guest lectures, ensuring students experience the thoughts of modern day employers of ICT & Digital skills, enhancing their opinion of the course and possibly leading to higher NSS (National Student Survey) scores in future years
  • Summer Placements for students of many disciplines, not only ICT & Digital; helping to hone important employability skills that will be reflected in the annual DLHE survey (Destination of Leavers in Higher Education) for final year ICT, and Digital students
  • Engage with IT SMEs by staging events involving their Marketing students or graduates – (ICT businesses are often in much need of help in these areas)
  • Put on events on business topics which will interest the IT business owners and expose them to the availability of business courses, KTPs, graduates etc.
  • Engage with SMEs to find sources of final-year project work or live briefs for other course projects / assignments, again enhancing course relevance – can lead to NSS and DLHE improvement
  • Engage with SME community to review content of existing and proposed academic courses to ensure relevance in the workplace – can lead to improved NSS and DLHE
  • Engage with SMEs in the ICT and other sectors by us promoting events via our Skillfair and Business Advisers Direct networks as well as the ICT sector through UKITA
Connect with other HE/FE institutes for exchange of what has worked for them using the UKITA brand to be relevant to the ICT sector

Use the UKITA membership office platforms to support ICT SME dissemination and consultation aspects of funded projects

Be identified regionally as a member/supporter through one of our Regional ICT Hubs e.g. www.IHubWestMidlands.co.uk and www.ITHubWales.eu and engage students in providing content for the regional platform in the form of regional ICT news and events listings

Place student and graduate CVs on the regional IT hub jobs board (where available)

Provide suitable materials (e.g. from their Business Schools/MBA students etc.) for our Consultancy Week platform

Put forward other ideas that help the Institution meet objectives they are currently needing to fulfill

To discuss opportunities for Higher and Further Education establishments to make use of an association with or membership of UKITA, contact our membership office on 0844 445 7571 or via [email protected]
