DESCRIPTION
Businesses in the Black Country are invited to find out what it’s like to be blind or visually impaired and how technology can be used to help overcome some barriers to work with this joint event organised by the UK IT Association and BCS the Chartered Institute for IT.
Many businesses don’t fully understand what it’s like to access websites or use typical computer applications if the user is visually impaired or blind. This interactive event, held at the Beacon Centre for the Blind’s headquarters in Wolverhampton, will explore how technology can be used to help overcome barriers for partially sighted or blind people.
The Beacon Centre will give demonstrations of assistive technology solutions currently available plus discussions about opportunities for new product / service development to help this sector of the workforce. In addition, SimSpecs (and black out goggles) can be worn enabling delegates to appreciate what it’s like to network if blind or partially sighted
It promises to be a highly engaging event, demonstrating the many issues that blind people face when using IT. Businesses will gain an understanding of the changes they can make to ensure their own websites or software applications are accessible by all potential users.
Cost to attend is £11.00 for non-members and is FREE for UKITA /BCS members with light refreshments included. Any business interested in attending can book online at www.blindit.eventbrite.co.uk or call 01902 845952
