  • Firms should be aware of branded domain names

    Applications to register branded domain names, such as .prada and .nike, can now be submitted to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). The window for registering new domains, which cost around £120,000 and can be almost any word, will remain open until 12 April this year. Rod Beckstrom, chief executive of the ICANN, urged businesses that do not apply to ensure that any new domains do not infringe on their trademarks.   • Security is greatest technology concern for retail

    Security is expected by almost half of retailers to be the greatest technology challenge they face over the coming year, according to research by web-hosting company, Iconnyx. Data storage was expected to be the biggest technology challenge for 20% of retailers, 17% cited mobile and 10% felt that e-commerce was the greatest concern. Cloud technology was found to be the biggest security concern for just 7% of retailers.
