Two Members, Four Wheels, One Thousand Miles!
UKITA Black Country Members Nigel Babb and Nigel Mills share a lot in common besides their first names: they’re both on the Black Country Committee, they’re both keen motorcyclists, they’ve both owned the same Harley Davidson at some time in their motorbiking past and now they’ve both decided that trying to become members of the Iron Butt Association in the name of Charity is a good idea......but they need your support
These ‘nutters’ (official term) will be attempting to ride on their motorbikes from Lands End to John O’Groats, via the M25, in under 24 hours – a total distance of approximately 1,045 miles for the official challenge – however they forgot to count the overall mileage in getting to the start and back home at the end so will in fact be covering 2,090 miles over 3 days in order to achieve this feat!
There are two very deserving charities that they are raising money for: Nationally for Help For Heroes and Locally for Wolverhampton St Georges Rotary Club.
Asked why he considered this challenge to raise money, Nigel Babb the Black Country Branch Chairman said “I thought long and hard about what I could do…..it was evident that I needed to combine a passion with a talent for maximum results….I love riding my motorbike and I’m told I sit on my backside most of the day in the office so the outcome was inevitable I suppose!”
The Branch Secretary, Nigel Mills, from Micro-Business Maintenance added “We wanted to support the fantastic work done by Help For Heroes in looking after our wounded Service men and women as well as see benefits locally within the Wolverhampton area where we both work – so the fabulous work of the local St Georges Rotary Club was an obvious charity we wanted to support as well”
If you would like to sponsor the two Nigels then this can be done by e-mailing your name and contact details to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
The Nigel’s will try to keep members upto date with their progress on the challenge via the Black Country Twitter account (UKITA_BC) and the Black Country Facebook Group (UKITA Black Country). However if they’re running behind schedule they may not get the chance – so as back up they are going to experiment with the MCN iPhone Ride Logger App (http://tiny.cc/9a8wm) – battery life permitting.
If you are so kind as to sponsor the two Nigels in their endeavours, they ask that you consider agreeing to Gift Aid by adding the statement “I wish to claim Gift Aid for my donation” to your e-mail donation above and then supplying your full name and address details to ensure that HM Treasury boost your donation free of charge - meaning every £10 you donate is actually worth £12.50 to the Charities - let’s face it we’ve all paid too many taxes to Gordon and Alistair over the years so take personal pleasure in getting some of this back and given to these charities instead of Bankers!
